Henri Boulanger was also known by the pseudonym "Gray" or "H. Gray" which he adopted early on in his career. Gray began his career as an illustrator, contributing his works to magazines and journals. In 1882, he was a principal artist for a magazine called Paris's Amuse. He then moved to Chronique Parisienne where he was also a principal artist designing the covers for the magazine. He produced a number of posters during the height of the poster craze in Paris, which remain sought after throughout the world today.
